About meMrs. Hanson is the name, Science is the game!
I attended Southern Connecticut State University to obtain my bachelor’s degree in Biology and my Masters degree in Science Education. I previously taught at both West Haven High School and West Haven’s Bailey Middle school before joining the Mauro Sheridan team in 2015. I have also worked at both Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the Connecticut Beardsley Zoo. These experiences leave me with a wealth of knowledge I’m excited to share with my students! |
my mission |
I believe that every student deserves the opportunity to experience hands-on science experiences from a young age. With this mission in mind, students will be invited to participate in weekly (sometimes twice weekly!) laboratory experiences. With this in mind, students MUST observe all safety precautions put fourth in the safety contract (linked on my homepage).

science fair |
Every year, Mauro-Sheridan hosts an in-school science fair. Every student in the school is asked to prepare a science fair project... K-4 prepares classroom projects, 5-6 prepare large group (3-5 student) projects and grades 7 and 8 prepare partner and individual projects. These projects compete at our science fair and the winners are selected to go to the city-wide science fair.
As the chair of the science fair, I am rigorous in the preparation of student science fair projects. I expect students to put 100% into their projects and I am proud to say that we have had winners at the New Haven city-wide science fair every year since I began teaching at Mauro-Sheridan. |
